Yesterday (the real yesterday) my group did Walk 17. It took us through Montparnasse and Jardin des Luxembourg.
Montparnass is a crazy, crazy part of town, no road is uncurved, and all roads lead to random places.
Our first stop was the statue of Alfred Dreyfus, a Jewish soldier wrongly convicted and then exonerated. After deciphering the map and growing grey hairs, we finally made it to the statue and the gardens. His statue was meant to be placed in the courtyard of l'Ecole Militaire, but because of lingering anti-semitism and the shame of wrongfully convicting a man due to his religion his statue was moved to a small corner of Montparnasse.

After visiting his statue, we continued done the Rue de Vavin to the Luxembourg gardens. Here we sat down under a tree in the chairs provided and ate a leisurely lunch.
Then we walked around the gardens and looked for things on our list, including people kissing, guards keeping people off the grass, petanque fields, intense chess games, beehives and children riding donkeys.
Then we walked around the garden and looked at the palace and the awesome fountain and statues.
This is where the French Senate meets
That's the shade that I sat in so I'd stop getting a sunburn
The Orangerie (Where they grow oranges. So the Musée de l'Orangerie, used to house oranges)
A sneaky picture of the intense chess games.
Possibly as close as I'll ever get to the Statue of Liberty
Then we followed the path out, stopping to look at beehives and to do martial arts because that was the last thing on our checklist. So since I knew martial arts and so did another guy we did martial arts in the park, so....interesting and a little uncomfortable.
Two things with this photo-1) She asked me to put her in a chokehold for this picture and 2) it's very bad form so...don't judge me:)
Still friends afterwards, couldn't stop laughing.
Anywho after our kung fu adventure we went and got gelato at Amirino's
I got hazelnut, amarino and amburge(all citrus in one).
My gelato was shaped like a rose, which is their specialty
Yes, that is a macaroon on top.Yet another delicious accidental splurge from living in a foreign country.:)
Then we took the metro home to Croissy, so all in all a nice relaxing walk in the park.
P.S. Ha! I'm hilarious;)
Good Night!!
